Culture Warriors
Culture Warriors features the work of 30 leading Indigenous artists from every Australian state and territory. This landmark exhibition is first time that the National Gallery of Australia’s inaugural Australian Indigenous Art Triennial has been shown overseas. It highlights artwork spanning the spectrum of contemporary Indigenous art, from traditional bark painting to sculpture, video and photographic installation. The largest exhibition of Indigenous Australian art to travel to the United States, Culture Warriors provides a strong affirmation of contemporary Indigenous culture. The exhibition will be complemented by a program of associated events including concerts, lectures, a book launch, free tours and films by Indigenous Australians.
Culture Warriors will be displayed at the Katzen Arts Center at American University until Sunday 6 December. On the eve of the exhibition's closing, the Embassy of Australia, the Katzen Arts Center and National Geographic's All Roads Film Project, present: FILM WARRIORS Recent Australian Indigenous Films.
