The Consulate carries out numerous functions in pursuit of the Australian Government's goals. Chicago is situated at the heart of the Midwest, the "Bread Basket of America", and one of the Consulate's key priorities is advancing Australia's agricultural interests throughout the region. The Chancery is strategically located within Chicago's "Loop", which is a major financial, business, and trade center.
O'Hare International Airport is only a short distance away making Chicago a hub for travellers worldwide. There are an estimated 10,000 Australians living in the consular region which covers the states of Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

The Consulate is committed to providing world-class consular and passport assistance to Australians abroad, including the issue and renewal of Australian passports. Business Relationships
Austrade has established an office at the Chancery. Austrade is the agency of the Federal Government dedicated to helping Australian exporters take their goods and services into overseas markets. Austrade also works to attract overseas investment for Australian enterprises and to help Australian companies make export related investments overseas.

Support/Liasison Services
A variety of services are provided for the Australian Government and its citizens including coordinating high-level Ministerial visits and providing voting booths for federal elections.

The Consulate works to project Australia's image and interests abroad in conjunction with the Embassy in Washington D.C. and the other Consulates-General.

Meet the Consul General
Prior to taking her position as Consul-General to Chicago, Ms Schick was Assistant Secretary, International Organisations Branch (2006-2008). Overseas, Ms Schick has served as Ambassador in Santiago de Chile (2001-05) and Deputy Head of Mission in Vienna (1990-94).
In Canberra, Ms Schick has held a range of senior positions including as Assistant Secretary, Americas Branch and later United States Branch from January to September 2006, Market Access Facilitator (Automotive) (1999-2001), Assistant Secretary, Nuclear Policy Branch (1998-99) and Director, Regional Economic Issues Section, including APEC (1994-97).
Ms Schick holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree from the University of Queensland and she is married with three daughters.
