Certified Copies of Original Documents
Consular Officers can make certified copies of original documents. Examples include the biodata page of a passport if you are completing a Tax File Number application, or business-related documents required to register a U.S. business in Australia.
Original documents can be copied and certified at the Embassy in Washington or at our Consulates-General in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Honolulu and San Francisco. Contact details for each can be found here.
Our Honorary Consuls in Denver and Houston are not able to perform this service.
You do not have to appear in person. If you prefer, you can send us your original documents. If you do send the documents, we recommend that you use a courier that allows you to track delivery.
Specify what you want copied and certified. For example, you might want a certified copy of the biodata page from your passport, or you might want a certified copy of every page. (The biodata page of your passport is the page that contains your biographical data: full name, date and place of birth, photograph, etc.)
There is a charge for this service under the Consular Fees Act. For October 2013, one copy of a passport biodata page, for example, will cost USD28.
If you want us to return your documents by Federal Express, then there is an additional charge of USD15 for each shipment weighing up to 8 ounces. If you prefer, you can provide a prepaid envelope with the courier company of your choice.
Documents sent to the Embassy should be addressed to:
Embassy of Australia
1601 Massachusetts Avenue NW
Washington DC 20036-2273
During business hours, you can contact us at +1 202 797 3000.
You may pay by credit card using the credit card authorization form on the next link.
