Certified copies
If you are completing a "Tax file number application or enquiry for an indivdual living outside Australia", you may wish to have your supporting documents copied and certified by a consular officer. You may do this in person at the Embassy in Washington or at our Consulates-General in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Honolulu, San Francisco and Atlanta. You'll find contact details here.
Our Honorary Consuls in Denver, Houston and Seattle are not able to perform this service.
You do not have to appear in person. If you prefer, you can send your documents in to us. If you do so, with all vital records we recommend that you use a courier that allows you to track your delivery.
Specify what it is you want copied and certified. For example, you might want a certified copy of the biodata page from your United States passport, or you might want a certified copy of every page. (The biodata page of your passport is the page that contains your biographical data: full name, date and place of birth, photograph, etc.)
At 1 June 2008 the charge for this service under the Consular Fees Act is USD29 for each copy. One copy of a biodata page will cost USD29. A copy of every page in a standard US passport will cost USD406 (for 14 images), or more if the passport has had pages added to it.
If you want us to return your documents by Federal Express, then there is an additional charge of USD15 for each outbound shipment up to 8 ounces. If you prefer, you can provide a prepaid letter-sized envelope with the courier company of your choice, but we have found Federal Express to be the most reliable.
