DEPUTY CHIEF OF MISSION
|Ms Millar arrived in Washington DC as Deputy Head of Mission in January 2014.
Ms Millar is a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Her most recent position in Canberra was First Assistant Secretary, International Security Division. She was Head of the United Nations Security Council Taskforce (2010-2012) before which she was the Ambassador to the United Nations and Ambassador to Geneva (2006-2010).
Her other positions in the Department in Canberra have included Australian Ambassador for People Smuggling Issues (2003-05), a position she held concurrently with her position as First Assistant Secretary, International Organisations and Legal Division; Assistant Secretary, Executive, Planning and Evaluation Branch (2001-02); Assistant Secretary, Trade Policy Issues and Industrials Branch (2000); Director, Non-Proliferation Policy Section (1992-95); and Executive Officer, Indochina Section (1987-88). Ms Millar was also seconded to the Australian Office of National Assessments as Senior Americas Analyst (1991-92).
Outside Australia, Ms Millar has served as Acting Head of Mission at the Australian Mission to the United Nations in New York (2006), Counsellor, Australian Mission to the United Nations in New York (1995-1998), First Secretary, Washington (1989-91) and Second Secretary, Hanoi (1985-87).
Ms Millar was educated at the University of Cambridge and holds a BA (Hons) degree in history.
