Australian Education International Internships
Australian Education International (AEI) is the international arm of The Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST). AEI has two offices in North America; one in the Embassy of Australia, Washington, DC and the other with the Australian Consulate-General in Los Angeles. The offices work with Australian, American and Canadian education institutions, third-party education providers, policy-makers and students in the US and Canada, to promote Australian education programs.
The AEI offices represent all of the Australian education sectors to promote:
-
awareness of the quality of Australian education
-
education and training opportunities in Australia
-
knowledge about the quality of Australian science and research
-
opportunities for collaborative research.
AEI recruits two interns each year; one in Washington, DC and one in Los Angeles, CA. Internships run for 6 to 12 weeks for the periods: September to December, February to May, and June to August. Interns are normally required to work a minimum of 20 hours a week.
Applicants must either be a United States citizen, a lawful permanent resident (green card holder), or hold a visa in the 'A' classification. (An 'A' visa takes precedence over all other visa classes, including 'E', 'F', and 'J'). An Employment Authorization Document (EAD) issued by United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) is sufficient only if the bearer also holds a derivative 'A' visa.
Summary of Duties
The intern will assist with basic event management, student enquiries, database tasks, administrative tasks and research. Event management requires the commitment to work outside of normal working hours on Embassy events.
