Congressional Liaison Internship
The Congressional Liaison Office recruits one intern in the fall, summer and spring. Fall and spring interns usually complete three days per week and summer interns are usually full-time, however this is negotiable. The internship is unpaid.
Applicants must either be a United States citizen or a lawful permanent resident (greencard holder) or hold a visa in the 'A' classification. Under United States immigration law, any other class of visa (including 'E', 'F', and 'J') is not compatible with working for a foreign mission. An Employment Authorization Document (EAD) issued by United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) is sufficient only if the bearer also holds a derivative 'A' visa.
Due to lengthy security vetting processes, applications close 10 weeks prior to the starting date.
Summary of Duties
The intern will assist with research on US domestic and foreign/trade policy and congressional activities of relevance to Australia; report on hearings and legislative developments; perform general administrative duties, including database use.
Desired Skills
The successful candidate will be a college student with strong writing, research and organisational skills; strong interpersonal skills; an ability to work independently with a personal interest in the field. Knowledge of Access database is desirable.
