Job Context
 

Invest Victoria is the international agency of the State Government of Victoria (Australia) responsible for the attraction of business investment into Victoria, the facilitation of exports and more generally, the international promotion of Victoria, Australia. The position of Investment Manager is based at the VGBO San Francisco and reports to the Commissioner for the Americas.

The Commissioner now seeks to appoint a highly motivated, experienced individual to join the VGBO Americas team to focus on Technology Enterprises in IT, Communications and Biotech but who is flexible and prepared to pickup and present opportunities as they arise in areas of in financial services, defence and aerospace.

DUTIES
 

1. Develop and execute lead generation initiatives designed to identify US based organisations with direct investment potential for Victoria, including research driven target selection exercises and pro-active marketing campaigns.
2. Work with potential investors through their decision processes to secure new investment into Victoria.
3. Build on existing relationships and create new connections with key, North American based executives of corporations that already have significant investments in Victoria or those planning to make investments - working with the VGBO team and in consultation with Sector and Account Managers within DIIRD in Melbourne.
4. Maintain and build effective relationships in other related agencies in the San Francisco Bay Area/California, including the Australian Consulate-General, Australian Trade Commission, Advance and Australian American Chamber of Commerce.
5. Establish and develop strong relationships with Victorian based stakeholders to enable collaborative progression of investment and export outcomes. Working with the VGBO team, share the work of managing and facilitating visits to market by Victorian Ministers, VIPs and industry sector experts.
6. Manage site visits of potential investors to Victoria in co-operation with other Victorian Government staff and provide professional marketing advice and assistance regarding market entry and the formation of partnerships between Victorian and US companies.
7. Working as part of the VGBO team, provide high quality advice to government, non-government agencies and senior management regarding issues relevant to businesses and the economic development opportunities for the US with an emphasis on technology driven industries and the west coast of the United States.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
 

1. Understanding of the global business environment (in particular as it relates to the USA) and the major issues which impact on the ability to attract international investment to Australia and Victoria.
2. Strong background in sales and business development and the ability to proactively seek out and call on senior executives of commercial organisations, understand their investment decision process and the ability to influence these processes.
3. Excellent understanding of the Victorian and Australian business environment, including key industry, economic and socio-political drivers. Proven knowledge of Victoria’s international competitive advantages.
4. Extensive background in investment promotion and business development with a capacity to deliver Government programs and to liaise effectively with companies and their intermediaries.
5. Demonstrated experience in managing relationships with complex client organisations
6. Extensive research and analysis experience involving industry or economic development issues including an understanding of international business protocols and investment decision-making processes.
7. Superior communication skills, including the ability to make presentations at senior levels, successfully conduct commercial/financial negotiations and to represent the Government of Victoria.
8. Completion of a relevant tertiary degree(s) and relevant industry/business experience.

This is a locally engaged position - the successful candidate is responsible for all arrangements and expenses (if any) in relocation to San Francisco, their accommodation and any day-to-day living expenses. Employment as a locally engaged employee is conditional upon the candidate's ability to work in the USA. The successful candidate will be subject to an initial 3 month probation period
