How to complete an online application for an Australian passport overseas
You may complete both PC8 and PC7 applications online.
The online applications are filled in online and then the completed forms are printed. You cannot download a blank form via the internet.
Ignore the section about using A4 paper, as this paper size is not readily available in the United States. The form can be printed on letter-size paper without difficulty. Do not change the settings on your printer to A4.
The page headed "Internet Application Forms" contains a number of questions that must all be answered and will determine to which application form you are directed.
See the following page for more detailed answers to this section and review the information on the embassy website to determine what form you should be using.
If you do not think a specific section applies to your application try to skip to the next section by scrolling to the bottom of the page and clicking NEXT.
If you come to a required field and the system does not accept your entry try using “XXX” or “O/S” these substitute for certain fields for overseas application, specifically fields which require a state.
Remember that all date fields are in Australian date format of dd/mmm/yyy.
A message will display at address fields within the form saying this address (overseas) cannot be validated because it is not in Australia. Provided the address is correct you can proceed by clicking "Next" at the bottom right corner).
A Birth Certificate is not a Birth Card. Do not enter Birth Certificate details in place of a Birth Card.
