Temporary Security Officer – expressions of interest

The Embassy of Australia is seeking interest from individuals who would like to be considered for temporary work assignments in the Security section.

The position is part of the Embassy Security team within the Corporate Management and Consular Branch in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, which is responsible for 24 hour surveillance of Embassy property and staff. The position reports to the Security Manager and is responsible for ensuring the protective security of the Embassy premises and of classified material within the premises. This is a uniformed position and is required to work rotating shifts, including weekends, public holidays and after hours events as rostered.

Under the direction of the Security Manager and in accordance with Workplace Diversity, Occupational Health and Safety and Industrial Democracy principles and practices the duties of the position are as follows:
• Facilitate access to and from the Embassy, and monitor movements within and surrounding the Embassy, including performing entry and exit formalities, visual and electronic surveillance.

• Provide support to the receptionist by attending the switchboard and acting as an initial contact point for queries from the general public.

• Execute regular patrols of the Embassy.

• Oversee vehicular access to the Embassy parking facilities.

• Check and update entries in the computerized security incident log.

• Perform additional related duties when necessary and as directed.
